Here we are Day Two of Ice Storm 2009! Much more ice on the trees and the ground today. Less freezing rain and more sleet falling for the better part of the day. (Freezing rain is rain that falls as liquid and freezes on contact. Sleet is rain that freezes as it falls to the ground. Oh, all the things one can learn on a snowed-in day!) So, here we are! Iced in! Power on! Hot Cocoa ready to go! Sleds ready to ride! It's a good day and we've enjoyed it! Which is good, because there is no school again tomorrow and we'll be repeating this all again on Wednesday! Hope the rest of you are staying warm!

Ice Report - 5pm
Ice Storm January '09 has begun! I picked the kids up from school at noon to avoid having them on the bus driving on the icy roads. I'm glad I did because there was no ice on the way home at lunchtime and this is what it looked like by the time the bus drove by our house this afternoon at 4pm. We still have power and, hopefully, that will remain on. Just in case, we've run the dishwasher and are trying to get all the laundry done ASAP. The corded phone is ready to go. Stocked up on butane for the camping stove and the cell phone is charged. Plenty of batteries and flashlights are on hand in case they are needed. We are suppose to continue to get moisture through tomorrow afternoon. So, school is already cancelled for tomorrow and I think we're all happy about that. It's kinda strange because the rain isn't really coming down very hard, so it's very quiet, but as I look out the window the ice just gradually gets thicker. So, enjoy the pics and we'll keep you posted.

Inaugration Day 2009
What a day, eh? The Pride and Patriotism I am filled with on each Inaugration Day is incomparable. The peaceful transfer of power within the most powerful country on Earth is just an awe-inspiring thing. Whether your guy won or lost, whether your party is coming or going, this day we come together as Americans, look forward and hope for the future, because really no matter who you voted for, you hope that whoever is doing the job is doing it well.
I distinctly remember the first Inaugration that I watched - thanks to Miss Massey, my fourth grade teacher. We watched Ronald Reagan take the oath of office on those same steps that Barack Obama stood on today. It's one of the childhood memories that's seared in my brain. It was so exciting and he was so hopeful. Well, today, 28 years later, I have a fourth grader and today I got to watch the Inaugration with him in his class. It was one of those full circle moments. I know it won't have same significance to him that it did to me, but I hope he remembers what he saw today and that someday he realizes how important it all is. I hope he realizes someday how lucky we are to live in a country where who has the power is not determine by who has the biggest army or who has the birthright, but by a vote of the people - ALL the people of this country. Yes, indeed, we live in the most amazing country on Earth. God Bless America!

Six for Saturday!
Lo and behold, I finally got some layouts done for my own scrapbook! Took a weekend off from all the stuff I volunteer to do for others and just concentrated on hanging out with the kids and scrapbooking! I really need to do that more often. I was really pleased with the way these turned out and thought I would share! This week I also did the layouts for my December class. Ashley is scanning them and then I will post them as well! It should be a fun class!
(P.S. I was checking this out after I posted and if you click on the pic you can see it full screen! All you computer savvy people probably already knew that, just be happy I'm catching up! Enjoy!)

Love this quote and love these pics of the kids flying kites. I got to use some of the Scenic Route paper I bought at CKC. I cut the flowers out of the scraps and I think they make a great accent!

This picture of the boys is one of my absolute favorites! There's just so much joy in their faces! I can't help but smile when I look at it! On the buttons I used a souffle' pen to draw the little designs. Another trick I learned at CKC!

This is one of those lame things I think is just oh-so-clever! It's a layout about chocolate chip cookies and the scallop edge pattern paper is reminscent of a cookie! I'm such a nerd!

I love the way the colors turned out in this layout! It's Aunt Cindi's 60th birthday and it just need fun bright colors. The paper is Stampin' Up and then in my stash I noticed I had flowers in all these colors and even a couple of brads with similar patterns. (I know it's hard to see here. Trust it looks good!) What I thought was cool, was that I probably wouldn't have put these flowers (or colors) together on my own, but taking inspiration from the paper it all works! I also figured out a good place to use my C.D. Muckosky letter stamps and that makes me happy!

This layout is probably my favorite of this batch!!!! The picture doesn't do it justice, because in person it just sparkles!!!! Like my mom's bracelets! The crystal swirl actually comes as a much larger swirl, but I didn't have that much room on my layout, so I cut it apart and arranged it like a photo corner and used the other extra pieces to highlight the flowers in the bottom left corner. The flowers are cut from scraps of the "Flip Flop Birthday" page above. It's double sided paper so I got the two different flowers from the same scrap! Then I used Stampin' Up rhinestone brads for flower centers and foam squares to raise them up a little. (and hard to see here!) Anyway, I just love it! I think it really accents all my mom's beautiful work!

Now there's actually journal card tucked behind the photos and a cute little ribbon to pull it out but the scanner cut it off! The quote at the top of the journal card says, "The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well." Isn't that the truth? Anyway, I took these pictures originally show how we are three generations of friends started by two teenage girls. I think I was thinking a little sappy at the time, but I was going to scrap this I realize we just aren't that sappy a group! We are much more of a plan every minute of fun group with a lot of sarcasm thrown in! It was fun to document some of our inside jokes through the years and pay homage to these really cool relationships that make my life better!
That's it for now. Can't wait to do some more, but alas, Thanksgiving and Christmas are upon and I will have to see when I can squeeze some scrapping time in. I need to just for my own mental health! Have a great weekend!

It's a miracle!
"Look, Mom, it's a miracle! There are TWO Baby Ruffies!" So, that's how my day started! For any of you that have not spent too much time with Ethan, especially at home, Baby Ruffie is his best little companion friend. He became attached to him when we were unpacking the house two years ago and they've been attached ever since. (His old companion, Pillow, didn't quite survive the big move.) He's been to many different places with us, but spends most of his time at home these days. ("I'm a Big Kid, now, Mom!" is Ethan's mantra these days!) But over the course of the last year, Baby Ruffie has been lost a couple times. Now, I'm sure all the good parenting books at this point would have said that was a natural time to let Baby Ruffie go, but honestly the big crocodile tears and super sad voice just broke my heart! So, I found this cute little Ty Beanie Baby Bulldog on eBay. In the meantime, Katie and Cody found another "Baby Ruffie" and shortly after that the original was found. So, now, I'm armed and prepared for any Baby Ruffie catastrophe! Well, last night Ethan fell asleep watching TV with no Baby Ruffie in sight. I searched the house. Chet searched the house. Could not find him anywhere. Since I really didn't want to get the 3am crying scene, I pulled out one of the back-ups and laid it down next to him. Fast forward to this morning, Ethan says, "How did Baby Ruffie get so fluffy?" (The back up was not quite so worn out.) "Oh, I don't know." Not long after that, Ethan looks under the table in the living room (he obviously has a better view of it from his vantage point...) and that's when the miracle of the TWO Baby Ruffies was discovered! He was so excited and is now carrying BOTH of them around all day!! Now what am I going to do? He has decided the "fluffy" one is a girl (because boys aren't fluffy, he says) and says he is going to give one to his best friend, Karsyn. Of course, she's on vacation for another week, so we'll have to see how generous he's feeling when she gets back!
